Hi
I am new here, been lurking a bit, and reading. I have been dieting for little over 2 weeks now. trying to count calories. I am soooooo hungry, stomache growls often, and I have only lost two pounds so far. On several occasions I have had issues with my low blood sugar (I have had low blood sugar for a long time) and wonder if I am doing something wrong, or right or what??!! Some more pertinent info:I am 42, peri-menopausal woman, 42, with a border line hypo-throid issue, and I am an artist, so I am not real active.
I have found this site interesting, and glad that someone told me about it! Hello to everyone!

i have had a problem with low blood sugar since i was in elementary school. it doesnt have to be chocolate or cake to boost it, but juicy fruits are very helpful i found especially apples or oranges. another thing i do is i keep bags of mini chocolate bars(you can buy an assorted bag) and i keep them in my car, purse, etc and when i feel my blood sugar dropping i eat just one. i havent need to do that in a while since i started dieting but the ther day i bought a bag of kisses and threw them in the freezer i havent needed any but when i do i know they will be there
congrads on the 2lbs it takes a while but its better to lose slow and steady

Hi.
If you're hungry, you are either not eating enough calories or not eating the right kinds of foods (and regarding blood sugar: not eating the right kinds of foods or not eating frequently enough).
May I ask for your height and weight, and how many calories you have been averaging so far?
For ideas of what to eat and other things beside, the Tutorial is a good place to start.

This is not something I really want to share.
I am 5'4, weigh 270 and I have been averaging 1300-1500 calories a day.
I am really trying to make healthy choices. fruits, pnut butter, rice cakes for snacks or those south beach bars. flat bread instead of white bread, etc.

I've put (Female, 42, 5'4", 270lb) into the RMR calculator on this website. Your unadjusted RMR is 1870. You should never go under this number! Eating 1300-1500 is unfortunately going to be a problem. Please increase your calories. Please read What It Takes to Lose It All.
[Note: if you take up exercise you may need even more calories]
So this could explain why you have been feeling hungry.
My trick for not being hungry is to pick foods from this list, in this order: vegetables, fruit, legumes, whole-grains, nuts/seeds.

Nir,
Thank you for the information. I understand the concept of eating more and losing, as I have done the carb diet in the past, and lost a lot of weight rapidly. But I could not maintain that meat heavy lifestyle, and of course gained the weight, plus.
I have been journaling my diet at another site, and will continue to do so, as I have noticed how this has helped me realize what I am eating. I have done this before in the past as well. Obviously, I have been a yoyo with my weight all my life and I am sure that my metabolism and body are quite screwed up.
Again, thank you for your time.
