I hope this is in the right section (if not could the moderators please move it and I apologise in advance) and I hope no one else has already done this, but I felt maybe everyone could benefit from some inspirational quotes and stories to read from time to time. I was going to just post it in my diary on here, but I felt it'd be nicer to reach more people out here on the general forum.

This poem shows that sometimes you have to just sit back and look at your life from someone else's point of view. Yes, your neighbour may have a bigger car. Yes, your girlfriend may have a better looking boyfriend. Yes, your friend may earn more money than you. Yes, your fellow dieter may be losing those 2lbs per week, while you struggle to reach one, but you have to remember that no one is perfect.
Butterfly Wishes
Yesterday a butterfly
Came floating gently through the sky.
He soared up through the atmosphere
Then drifted close enough to hear.
I said, "I'd love to fly with you
And sail around the way you do.
It looks like it would be such fun
To fly up toward the summer sun.
But I have not your graceful charm.

Sometimes on this weight loss journey you are trodding along and something brings you down. Maybe you binge for more than a day. Maybe you gain even though you've done everything right. Maybe you feel frustrated because you've lost a lot yet you still feel the same. I've felt that way too, but what helps is by helping others. You may know a lot about weight loss, yet you forget to apply it to yourself. For example, you feel bad because you binged, yet when someone else does it, you remember to tell them that it was just one day. The next time you are about to be mean to yourself, think of the way you'd treat someone else. Think of the advice you'd give to them. Think of the beauty you see in others that you don't see in yourself.
A certain man planted a rose and watered it faithfully. Before it blossomed, he examined it. He saw a bud that would soon blossom. He also saw the thorns, and he thought, "How can any beautiful flower come from a plant, burdened with so many sharp thorns?" Saddened by this thought, he neglected to water the rose, and before it was ready to bloom, it died.
So it is with many people. Within every soul, there is a rose. The "God-like" qualities planted in us at birth, growing amidst the thorns of our faults. Many of us look at ourselves and see only the thorns, the defects. We despair, thinking nothing good can possibly come from us. We neglect to water the good within us, and eventually it dies. We never realize our potential.
Some don't see the rose within themselves. It takes someone else to show it to them. One of the greatest gifts a person can possess is to be able to reach past the thorns and find the rose within others. This is the truest, most innocent, and gracious characteristic of love to know another person, including their faults, recognize the nobility in their soul, and yet, still help another to realize they can overcome their faults.
If we show them the rose, they will conquer the thorns. Only then will they blossom many times over, Our duty in this world is to help others, by showing them their roses and not their thorns. It is then that we achieve the love we should feel for each other. Only then can we bloom in our own garden.

I wrote this poem when I was starting to feel jealousy practically taking over me. I was jealous of a number of things: People having more friends than me, people having a partner, people having a lavish lifestyle, people who had less weight than me to lose, people who lost more weight than me when we started around the same time, people met their goal weight faster than me...
And then I thought...what a waste of time this is.
Grant Me Wings.
Grant me wings so I can fly and fly...and touch the sky...and hold my head high.

And she flew away and left me standing there. I envied her so. I couldn't let go.
She had the perfect hair. The perfect body. The perfect boyfriend. Perfect Life.
Judging by her smile, the grass really was greener on the other side.

I didn't want to be myself.

I can't tell you how much these poems have cheered me up today. I was feeling so discouraged - almost ready to give up. And then I read these. Thanks so much for posting them. Its exactly what I needed to see today.

I've seen a girl leaning over a desk before and thought: Wow, her waist is not even half as big as mine and I bet she doesn't exercise, why did I get these "fat" genes...but then I thought of people who got "blind" genes or "deaf" genes or "learning disability" genes or even "cancer" genes and remembered my genes, besides my weight, are perfectly fine in comparison to that.
Besides, my sister has also been tiny her whole life, but now she's putting on weight. Weights gains are probably gonna happen to a lot of the "skinny, lucky" people you see in the street. That's just the way it is.
Besides, those "naturally skinny" girls wouldn't last five seconds in the gym, even though they probably don't see the point in going anyway. All this weight lifting and cardio means that if anything happened out there in the real world, our bodies would be in such good condition they could handle it. For example, if someone tried to rob me (and they didn't have a gun/knife/etc), I'd Tae bo kick his/her #%@&! outta my face...lol, hopefully.
Also, if being naturally skinny is so good why do some people on this website have only ten pounds to lose? They're not "fat", they can EASILY rock bikinis, but they're still here. Why? Because just like us they want to feel better, be healthier and have that tone and definition only the gym can give.
So stop comparing to others and work with what you have and be grateful for what you've been given...because for all you know, you could lose it ALL tomorrow.

In the papers in the UK, there's a 16yr old girl called Josie Grove who chose to stop her cancer treatments so she can enjoy the rest of her life. It saddened me when to hear a young girl, who's just starting life, has to decide to die. All the pain she's been through; it must hurt even more knowing that she probably won't get to see her younger brothers and sisters grow up.
Whenever I start to feel down over trivial things like not having had a boyfriend yet, or not getting great grades at school, I remember her and how lucky I am to have lived this long and gotten this far.
I hope that whoever reads this, whenever you feel down, think of the people worse off than you. It puts your life in perspective.

I've been there, but hopefully never again. I get to the end of the week and have lost nothing, but you just have to remember to hold your head high, look back over the week and see how you can improve. There must be something that can get better. You haven't failed if you didn't last the whole exercise session, you haven't failed if you ate many snacks today, you haven't failed if you didn't lose, you haven't failed if you didn't fit into those jeans yet, you haven't failed if your deficit was small or non-existent...you just learned. How can you grow if you don't learn? People who act like they know it all, don't.

Don't Quit

I felt discouraged today because I wasn't at my goal yet. I didn't feel like a failure, but I didn't feel like a success either. I felt really down, and this poem written by another dieter on the net brought me back from the dark period that suddenly appeared over my head.
I hope you're feeling well today, and that you remember that any bad times are indeed temporary, and will make you fully appreciate the good that is to come.
Discouragement

I think this great people can really use this in life. I use to send everyone in my phone a positive message everyday. People reaally need that all the time. I stoped beacause I was not listing to what I was writing, but this is a new me all about me. When you are good with self, you can be better in life.

Hey Heaven!
Yes, I've heard some brilliant things over my many years, but that one sticks in my mind all the time. It's simple, to the point and gives you just long enough to regroup! Someone puts an exam in front of you (like they did), don't panic. Someone puts half a wedding cake in front of you, same thing... don't panic.
If you've never read the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe Trilogy (of which there are 4 books), pick it up when you have time. Takes place in London I think.... or somewhere in England. Douglas Adams was a very, very funny man. Sort of like PG Wodehouse on drugs-dry but very funny, silly and sometimes bordering on the ridiculous. Not condoning drugs of course, but he did drink a fair bit and that may have contributed to some of his whacky sense of humor.
One of his other quotes that I like is "The yellow space ships hung in the air overhead, much in the way that bricks don't." Nothing to do with weightloss or motivation, but really funny nonetheless. He said a teacher once told him that you weren't allowed to make comparisons like that- he did it to show her that you indeed can!

Actually, being born in the British Isles is responsible. Lousy weather, lousy politicians, lousy at sport (can't even win our own tennis Grand Slam)...
It all gives you a wry slant on life.
If I'd been Russian, I'd have turned to drink, of course. Part of the 'if life hands you a lemon, make lemonade' approach. God gave Russia a surplus of potatoes, so they made vodka.

Lol. Don't let any of Henman's fans hear you! Every year there's hope for him...even though he's an old man in tennis now, and it's been I think 14yrs since he first arrived. 14yrs and no Grandslam- what a champ!

I suspect I would have had a lot more friends if I finished his book! Haha. I've had it most of my life, still do, but only read a few chapters in the '70s.
I have always remembered this point, though. People are most interested in themselves, and want to talk about themselves. If you direct your interest at them you'll be an instant friend.
I can't really talk with my dad at all, but I listen all the time. If I say something about myself, it's amazing how quickly he can turn the conversation back to him.
When I called to tell him I had (sometimes deadly) melanoma skin cancer (they got rid of it all 7 years ago and I'm just fine), I got in about two sentences before I spent 20 minutes listening to him talk about all his ailments. When he was all done he said he hoped I was fine and good-bye.
He's my father, but not my friend.
Sorry, guess I just needed to vent. I'm calling him to wish him a happy birthday today.

This is a great post heavenseventeen! Quotes are always very intriuging to me and surprisingly they kind of do make for a good pick-me-up! Although I think my favorite quote on here was actually the story you told about that skinny girl...that one really made me feel better because, being in a dance class at school, I have to face those stick-chicks every other day and it drives me mad with jealousy!!!
