I am a 45yr old male I weigh about 235-240 lbs. My question is this I have a BMI / RMR of about 2000- 2300. I ride my bike long trips like 30 miles 2 times a week, ice skate, and play hockey all big calorie burners. I have been keeping track of everything I ingest which is around 2300 calories / day. But I am burning some days 4000- 5000 calories. How many calories should I be eating to loose weight fast? I am afraid that if I don’t eat enough my body will go into starvation mode and I won’t loose the weight but if I eat to much I will gain more. Please someone that understands this stuff explain it to me because I’m not getting it:confused: Thank you in advance.]

What you describe reads like a calorie deficit of between 1700 and 2700!

One thing's for sure: you're unlikely to be able to metabolise that many calories from fat stores.  That means you'll probably use up muscle instead.   That's bad news, since you slow down your body's fat-burning capability.

Between 500 and 1000 calories a day deficit is the 'safe' range for burning  fat off your body.  You should adjust your daily intake to suit your activity level per day.

Many find that particular attention paid to nutrients pays off when fat loss is the aim.  In particular, reduce fat to around 20% of calorie intake, and ensure protein is 25 to 30%.

I hope that helps.

Are you sure you burn that much?  Do you use an heart rate monitor?  I discovered after I started using mine that what the calculations online say are much different that what I was really burning.  Just a suggestion.

Thank you for the reply!!  I find it hard to eat 2000 clean calories a day. 3000 will be a nightmare.
