I don't know, but in writing my tutorial on raising metabolism I read a lot of articles and never heard it once.
Also see last week's newsletter.
Peter
P.S.
Put lemon on fish instead of tartar sauce and you won't have to worry about raising your metabolism!

I recently heard cantaloupe helps metabolize fat if you eat it with a meal, or just before. I think these are all one shot, one food diet scams. Remember the Grapefruit 45 diet? I heard that eating a modest, balanced diet of nutritious foods and exercising helped your metabolism. So far it seems to be working for me.

My mother told me many times before back in the days when she was younger(she is now 50) that her and her friends would drink lemon juice and thats how they stayed so thin. Cuz I guess it burns the fat? I dont even know but ive done it and it works!

HEY EVERYONE,
I HAVE HEARD THAT LEMON JUICE IS A NATURAL DIURETIC WHEN MIXED WITH WATER. SO, YOU JUST ADD SOME LEMON TO YOUR DAILY WATER INTAKE. IF IT BOOSTS METABOLISM TOO, THAT WOULD BE GREAT! BUT WHO KNOWS WHAT IS TRUE?
I THINK THAT SKIPPERDOX IS RIGHT, EVERYTHING IN MODERATION IS YOUR BEST BET, THEN IF SOMETHING EXTRA WORKS, THEN IT'S JUST LIKE "0 CALORIE GRAVY"

Truth be known...there isnt really anything that will Raise yours Metabolism by a significant amount other then building muscle.....even how much muscle affects it is debateable....I have read that a lb of muscle will burn anywhere from about 5-100 calories a day.
going by how much bodybuilders can eat I imagine it is more then 5 but less then 100.
a Body builder can have 100lbs of extra muscle on is body...if one lb of muscle burned 100 calories then the muscle alone would be burning 10000 per day!!!!! there is no way that is happening. I doubt that IT even burns 50 a day...as I dont think Body builders can eat an additional 5000 per day. So I estimate it is some where between the 5 and the 50 number...probably more closer to to 25.

My research and experience has shown that muscle does burn energy, but not so fast when it sits idle. However, put that muscle to serious use and it has a voracious appetite for energy.
This is one of the reasons I do regular muscle work, and also why riding a mountain up up big hills works well for me!

Initially I encountered estimates of 30-50 calories burnt per pound of muscle. However more recently I encountered an RMR formula which is simply based on your lean body mass (as opposed to your age, gender, height and weight). That formula implies that you burn 10 calories per pound of muscle - at rest. Then, if you use an activity multiplier (say 1.55 for someone who exercises 3-5 times a week) then it becomes 15-16 calories per pound of muscle.
grapefruit: they did some research. 3 groups: one eating 1/2 a grapefruit before meals, one drinking some grapefruit juice before meals, and a control group not allowed to have grapefruit. They found that both grapefruit groups lost more weight than the control group. So maybe something in it. Research was sponsored by a citrus interest. (I will find a link if anybody is particularly interested)

Does lemon juice boost the metabolism?
I thought a bit about this one - and I could see one instance where it might be true.
If you had an blister on your foot and you got some lemon juice on it, you'd probably run faster (for a while, anyway).

I read where lemonade (juice)(no sugar added) keeps the system running well! Something about the citric acid breaking up particles that will accumulate and form kidney stones! Sorry I can't quote the source just now --
But, I do favor the tart flavor and add Wyler's Light sugar free mix to my yogurt or just mix with shaved ice . . . and get a flavor that my kids won't touch!

The citric acid in lemon juice creates a chemical reaction in your body. Since lemon juice has a low Ph your body will release bicarbonate in order to raise your Ph. The ideal Ph level is 6.75 - 7.25. When the Ph is below 6.5 (acidic) the bodies' ability to utilize oxygen declines and the risk of disease increases. When the Ph is above 7.5 (alkaline) oxygen delivery increases.
In order to burn fat you must have sufficient delivery of oxygen. That is how lemon juice can create a rise in your metabolism.
If a person is under a large amount of stress, over trains, or eats a bad diet chance are they are acidic, which will hamper your ability to lose weight. If a person eats healthy, and manages stress than the lemon juice is much more effective.
Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) 1/4 teaspoon per 6oz of water can also raise Ph. However, there is also a high amount of sodium in baking soda, which may raise blood pressure.

Probably not, because you are not drinking it straight, and if you drank too much and did not dilute it enough you would probably end up with diarrhea. The key is to use litmus paper to measure your Ph which can be done on either saliva or urine I have done both and the test results were similar. I like the saliva because it is easy and much cleaner. You want to get it around 7.3 - 7.4. You can usually get litmus paper from a health food store that focuses on holistic health.

The lemon juice acts as a stimulus to increase oxygen usage due to a release of bicarbonates to neutralize the citric acid. Increased oxygen levels allow for an increased amount of fat being burned. The lemon juice on its own does not increase the metabolism. However, the body's response to the juice does.
It is a lot easier for most people to have an understanding lemon juice does increase metabolism without going through the biochemical reaction that actually increases the metabolism.Last edited on 21 October 2009 03:21 pm by garylars31

| I agree with garylars31, I don't know anything about it, but I was under the inpression that acidic or spicy foods increase metabolism due to the energy required to burn off that type of food.

Lemon juice is an acid base and helps the body maintain a stable blood sugar level. When blood sugar stabilizes, it is easier to lose weight.
If you want to know detail information about booster metabolism food you can get in smartbabysecret.com/healthy/9-the-ultimate-fat-burning-foods.htmlLast edited on 24 October 2009 12:34 am by

| Of course, the absolute best way to boost your metabolism with lemon juice is to squirt it directly into your eyes. The insuing running around the house screaming will get the heart pounding and in turn, raise your metabolism.
