Hey all,

I've been on a healthier eating plan for the last few days, with daily cardio and/or weights.  However, I'm noticing a pattern that relates to my coffee consumption.  When I drink coffee during the day (like into the afternoon) I seem to be very anxious by dinner time and usually snack into the night :(

Has anyone quit caffeine as a way to lose weight?  I know a lot of folks say that it increases your metabolism, but for me it increases my stress...and since I'm an emotional eater, that's not good.

Problem is I LOVE my coffee!!  Guess I have to keep telling myself that I'll love being thin more?  Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated :coffee:

I haven't got the specifics to hand but I do recall reading it messes up with your blood sugar levels, up and down like a yo-yo, so cravings are understandable.

It just so happens I've been making changes in that department in recent days. I found myself drinking my coffees very quickly so I stopped sweetening them (previously had 3 artificial sweetners per cup), then in recent days traded these for water. More a health than a weight management issue - although they were mostly decaff it is a habit I'd be better without (or at least if it was an ocassional thing not a many-times-a-day thing)

I just recently learned that caffeine prompts your body to produce unneeded insulin.  (What Nir said).

Yeah, I know, I gotta quit my Diet Cokes :crying:

When I drink it all day long, it wrecks me. I drink a little tea in the AM and I am trying to cut out the rest.

I am probably the worst with that. I drink tea and diet soda all day long. I do try to make green tea on most day....but still I should cut back..:(

I go through two 2 liter bottles of Diet Mountain Dew a day while working and a can or 2 of Coke Zero at home. I used to drink Dr Pepper in a slightly lower quantity and switching to diet accounted for roughly 100 lbs lost by my calculations. Maybe you aren't drinking enough?

There might be a sacrifice you can make. You can have the full-caffeine stuff before a workout. It's supposed to boost your endurance by 18% or something like that. And then for the rest of the day stick to the darkest, strongest decaf brew you can find. I do not recommend the Folgers in the green can, fyi. I'm no coffee connosieur but that stuff sucks.

I have 2 kids under 6 enough said  I didn't give it up I just watched how much I drank. Morning ..yes before a workout .....yes. I would stop by noon and no issues with snacking

This is interesting...I never thought about coffee and insulin levels. I drink a lot of it, but switched to using sweetener instead of sugar...perhaps that might explain why weight has not been dropping off me.

coffee is also considered a diuretic and makes your body short on water.  Sometimes, our bodies cannot differentiate the need for water and the need for food, so you might be eating to fulfill that need as well.  Try consuming more water, especially before, during, and after you workout and see if that helps.
