Hey everyone, I know weight loss is a tough thing to go through. Its a roller coaster ride with alots of inclines, declines, twists and turns. Alot of factors are involved when the process of weight loss is started. My story is not a total success yet, but hopefully it will.
I have always been a big kid, I was born 13 pounds. As a young kid I never really thought weight loss as being important. But eventually as I grew I knew that this weight issue would harmy my future. To my recollection the most I have weighed is about 360, maybe more, I never really checked after I saw that on the scale, I just went into a state of denial and depression. In July 2003 I was 6"1 360 pounds. I started to do minor workouts because my body couldnt handle too much working out. By August/Sept 2004 I dropped down to 330. I was happy, I could start to see a change immediatley. Unfortunatley I got distracted with personal matters after that and my plan of weight loss was abandoned. It wasnt that I was eating too horibly but I didnt exercise. In March 2005 I decided to start my workout program once again. During the begining of March I was 340. I have been keeping to my workout and diet routine ever since and now May 19 2005, I am 6'3" 285 pounds. This weight is not my ideal weight but its a start. I am happy from the results, its a 55 pound weight loss in about 2 months and 20 days. It isnt easy though, and some might say its unorthodox, but my program has got me here and I am pleased so far. I went from a size 52 pant size and a 4x shirt size to a 44 pant size and a XL shirt size. You might be wondering what I did, and I also would like to know if you all have any other advice for me to help me continue my process.
Weight Loss Routine
4-5 Times a week Eliptical and Cycling or Treadmill
2- 2 and a half hours a day, 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour at night, straight cardio.
Breakfast- Small cup of Sugar Free Jello, or a Hard Boiled Egg.
Lunch/Dinner- 1 Baby Spinich Salad (either 1 bowl, not too big), Oil and Vinegar Dressing, Green Peppers, Onions, Celery and Mushrooms
Drink: Water, and sometimes Unsweet Tea. Nothing else though.
I know it sounds like starvation or something, but my stomach has got used to it, I dont crave junk food anymore, and I dont crave seconds. I have been doing this for a good 2 months now, occasionally I will have some sort of meat but for the most part its salads. So thats my story, but its only a start for me, I hope to drop down to 240, I dont know how long it will take but Im hoping by then I will be my ideal shape and size.

Hello DJ2005,
Wow. I wouldn't call that a starvation diet. It's more like not eating at all! I guess you're getting your energy from the fat you're burning and the excitement of your progress.
Obviously it wouldn't be healthy to keep this up for too long, so I'd like to suggest that you start working on learning to eat well so that you can sustain your weight loss and your health.
The problem with "crash diets" is that once people lose the weight... where do they go. If they don't know how to eat healthy to keep it off where they go is "back up!"
We're all so different I would never suggest what anyone else should do. But what works for me is eating highly nutritious, healthy food with a very high ratio of nutrition to calories. I eat all I want and in fact sometimes have to remind myself to eat more so I don't get too thin. And while I was never 360 pounds, I was certainly overweight.
You might look at my FAQ, "How can I lose weight quickly, safely, and keep it off?"
I notice your salad is "not too big." If you look at the calories in the spinach vs. the dressing, it's likely that the dressing will contain as much as 10 times the calories as the spinach. So you might be able to use a "lite" dressing and eat a huge (nutritious) salad with no gain in calories. That's an example of how I eat, and why I can eat virtually all I want.
Thanks for your post and I wish you the best. Hopefully others will comment, too. And keep us posted!

I have to admit ive been on a weight roller coaster for about 3 years now... I played football and baseball in high school and baseball in college... while doing that i had coaches on my back to get bigger, stronger, faster, blah blah blah... so i did... Im 5'9'' in high school i was a fairly ripped 215lbs, I was told to slim down for college baseball, so i did... to 210lbs... but lean and more flexible... with the workouts we had in the offseason and during the season i figured i was burning about 1500-2000 calories a day, easy! maybe more on game days or real heavy running days, or whenever the coach was #%@&! off. but 3 years removed from all of that here i sit...
and by sit i mean doing nothing, im an accountant now. (that means i sit in a cubicle and type on here all day!) I quickly gained about 20-25lbs. I had my weight down to 185 right out of college, I was looking to be ripped at the beach so i got my weight down and looked great! but now im at 210lbs and i still have most of the muscle i had its just covered in a nice healthy layer of fat! Ive been struggling mostly to stick to a diet and workout routine. I got engaged and now we tend to eat out more, get ice cream and whatnot (she is very thin! she eats everything and is still 5'9'' 110lbs). so ive finally got back into it and feel great about it!
I am now rock climbing twice a week and doing circuit workouts 3 days a week. I have a ton of energy and cant wait to get to the gym every day! I have lost mostly water weight so far but im down about 8lbs in 2 1/2 weeks!!
I found a workout that i enjoy mostly because of the speed (about 45 mins) and the intensity (heavy sweat about 5-10 minutes into it) and i know my body is feeling better and that is what makes me feel the best!!
I am new to this forum and I will continue to keep everyone posted!!
down 8 1/2 lbs only 20 more to go!!

Hi! I'm new to this forum & this is the first post I read, so now I'm responding.
This doesn't sound like a starvation diet at all. It's sounds very "low carb" & trust me, I'm an expert! Well, more of an expert in knowing what "low carb" is, not so much an expert in practice. Have you ever considered the Atkin's diet? It sounds like your body responds well to eating low carb foods. 55 pounds in 2 months? That's incredible!!
I noticed this post was from back in May. DJ2005, if your still around, how is your progress?

Hi, DJ. I take it you're a young person, seeing as how you've grown two inches in two years. I've always been a big kid, too, only I'm a woman and now I'm 44 and 6'1" and 278 lbs. Seven weeks ago, I weighed 303. I've lost 25 pounds eating a lot more than you've been eating.
I had a minor weight problem as a teenager. At 19, I lost 35 pounds on what I called my "one salad" diet. I'd eat a salad for dinner every day for about a week, until I started feeling faint and blacking out when I stood up, and then I'd add a sandwich and some macaroni salad for lunch for a week, then do the dinner salad for a week, and so on, until I'd lost 35 pounds in a couple of months.
It felt great, but only took a couple of months to gain back the 35 pounds plus. Eventually, I needed to lose 75 pounds, and later 150 pounds. I realize you have a lot to lose, but the one-salad plan isn't sustainable. It really is starvation. Unless you want to be even bigger when you're my age, I'd suggest a more balanced program that you can keep up for life.Last edited on 25 June 2005 06:53 pm by nee
