In Feb I was 307, got diagnosed with Type2 Diabets and HAD TO loose weight. Now I'm almost halfway there at 260
What worked for me is just a few things.
1) write EVERYTHING I eat into a diary (Excel spreadsheet)
2) limit to 1300cal/day
3) READ THE FOOD LABELS
4) be honest with myself (no cheating)
5) No sweets. None. Nada. Well, fat-free sugar-free Yoghurt is ok
6) Lot's of vegetables, raw and cooked
7) Mostly Chicken and Turkey, very little pork or beef.
8) FIBER! (see item 3)
9) try to excercise a little (every little bit helps!), but see topic 4!!!!
10) READ THE FOOD LABELS
Good luck to **YOU**, If I could do it you can too, trust me

congrats!
but i have a question: i try to count calories and limit my calorie intake too, but sometimes after i think i have eaten enough calories, i still feel hungry. what did you guys do? starve yourself? and wouldn't it cause more mental stress when you try to restrict yourself from eating? i feel like the more deprived, the more likely for binging.
any suggestion will be helpful!

Congrats on you wonderful success, that is terrific!
Did you hit any plateau's along the way? If so when and for how long? I started at 230 lbs and am now down to 199, I seem to be stuck. If you did hit a plateau, how did you overcome it?

My philosophy is, if you are truly hungry, you should eat. If you blow all your calories for the dayon one meal, but then later you are hungry (truly, actually hungry, not just want food) then you should eat anyway. Forget calorie count, don't starve yourself.
NOTE: If you often find yourself still HUNGRY after you hit your calorie target for the day, you may be limting your cals too much. If I may ask, weightloss wonder, what is your daily goal?
Also, congrats austrian guy!! I hope you have much continued success!!

| thanks! what about if you just want food? Do you control yourself by not allowing yourself to eat? isn't that a kind of deprivation as well?

If you just WANT food?
No, not deprivation. Self control. Just wanting food, not needing it, is what makes us all gain weight:P
Yes, if you just want food there are several things you can do to help yourself not eat it. You could have some water to distract yourself, go for a walk, read a book, any kind of distraction techniques. :)
Btw, I see this is only your second post. Welcome to CPH!

There are a few things you can do. Leave a few calories for "emergency's" and have some low-calorie large-volume stuff at home. Popcorn works pretty good, cucumbers, bellpeppers or tomatoes. Fat free turkey/chicken and such. You can get a lot of food with 150cal. And worst case, if you go over your budget, do excercise a little. And if all fails... accept it. Do not fool yourself, do not start to cheat yourself. It just happened, you are 500cal over. Ohmigod. So what. The next 3 days try to go 150 under and you are in good shape and back on track. But, again, be honest, keep track. And if you are over keep track even more exactly, so that after those 3 days you can say "I did it!".
Good luck!

And maybe one more thing.... we (well, I am) have to loose weight for health reasons. So, consider the alternative. Just a little motivation.
BUT. B U T ! ! ! ! !
We do not have to kill ourselves. Punish or starve ourselves. If you do you will not last. There are alternatives out there. The #1 thing I learned during the last few months..... READ THE [food] LABEL.
E.g. regular potato chips 140cal/1oz. So, if you are like me, half a bag (5oz) is just a snack, but (5*140) 700 cals. Yikes
Fat free chips (pringles, lays, ruffles and more I am sure) are 70cal/oz. If you take 3oz out of the bag and put it in a bowl (get a good kitchen scale) , it actually looks like A LOT and is only 210 cal
Like chili? most cans of chili and beans are something like 700cal. Campbells steak chili and beans are 400 (and darn tasty, I'd say).
And so on and so on. READ THE LABEL. Calories, fat, carbs, cholesterol .... read and compare. You'd be amazed what you find, at pretty much the same price!
