I was going to say we'd all like to hear how you did it, but I see I can click on your user name and visit your homepage and read your story. All I can say is WOW!
Your before and after pictures are amazing... you look like a different person.
Welcome to our new forum... it's really just getting going.
Peter
P.S.
I also read the other of your first two posts. You have a lot to offer!

hehe thanks peter, choco and wishing :D
come to think of it... i'm not sure how i managed to do it either. lol. i guess these are my basic rules:
1) eating everything in moderation. it's no good depriving yourself of "bad" foods 'coz that will only make you binge even more. naturally, if you have to pick between processed and unprocessed foods, you should pick unprocessed foods. and add more fruits and veggies to your diet by snacking on them if you're hungry in between meals. and if you do fall off the diet wagon, it's OKAY. just pick yourself back up and continue on your efforts to lose the weight.
2) exercise at least 3 times a week. i run everyday, play tennis about 3 times a week, and i sometimes swim at night as well. i take my dog out for a walk everyday as well for 30 mins per session. and always remember to stay active throughout the day. doing housework can burn those extra calories as well. if housework does not seem appealing to you, you can always take a walk or go window shopping. make it fun ! whatever you do, it's good to be on the move constantly. i remember being able to only jog for 15mins at 4.5 mph. now i can jog for an hour and a half at 6mph.
3) emotionally speaking, every so often your self image and weight will pull you down. so i kept a list of inspiring quotes in my journal. and each time i feel yucky looking at myself, i remember those quotes and i feel motivated once again. you can always turn to forums such as these to be inspired as well. i love looking at other people's "before" and "after" pics to keep me motivated. teehee... sinful, i know >: )
eventually these rules will become a part of you. it'll become a lifestyle change. one day of no exercising for me is an itch i have to scratch. i am not able to eat as much as before anymore. it just comes naturally. soon it'll be a walk in the park and before you know it, you will see a new you in the mirror
doesn't sound much but i think this is enough as it is. oh, and my website's still a work in progress. so, i'll keep adding things every now and then. but thanks you guys for the support. i appreciate it : )

first of all... WOW! you look-! I dont know what to say other than amazing
Second - and i think the real reason you came to this site is for another problem that you said on your site. You seem to think you have a psychological problem or some kind of eating disorder.
If something helps you to become more healthy and have a longer life is it really a disorder? Where do you think the line is?
I am interested to know.
good job!
Benjee
Side note
It is much harder to lose weight in the USA than anywhere else in the world. I would compare it to trying to quit smoking while living with someone who smokes all the time.

thanks ben ;)
i believe the reason why i say this is turning into a psychological problem is because im obsessed. along with my obsession came fear of gaining weight, fear of food, fear of not exercising enough. im not purposely living on 500 to 1000 calories a day. but rather, im too scared to eat. i know i should eat to increase my metabolism and such, but im scared that eating more than i usually do will raise those numbers on the scale. im afraid that not exercising at least once a day will do the same. im a slave to the scale. from the misery i found pleasure and comfort: knowing that im strong enough to overcome my cravings.
granted im much healthier now than i used to be, i think i have to see a shrink someday. maybe after i lose the extra 20 lbs. if you ask me what im gonna do after i lose the extra 20, id answer: maintain by disciplining myself with the use of fear. worked for my mom and sisters.
on the same note, i think im a masochist. har har har.
ps: lol pete.

There is nothing wrong with being a health nut in some ways. I think you should come up with a healthy weight that you want to be (or are already) and stick to it. It is very easy to get in the mindset that you will always have weight to lose no matter what. This isnt good because you start to value eating less and and stray away from your main goal (or what should be your main goal); To be healthy.
You have used self-control to rid yourself of a problem and done something that many many people fail at-- all the time. When you reach your goal you should set a weight limit and stick to it. You should allow yourself a few pounds give or take and maintain.
After you do reach your goal, (you look great already) It would be a good idea to apply the self control you used to lose weight towards another maybe unrelated goal. Such things could be school, business, personal relationships, etc. Imagine what you could do in your lifetime if you could channel this self control for other things.
Just my opinion

early this summer I would say I was about 30 lbs overweight and now Im about 10 lbs overweight.
I just eat smaller portions and better food (fruits, veggies, beans, etc) and roller blade.
I think most people on this site will agree who saw your pictures... You have got to be the best before and after I have ever seen. It is really amazing. How long did you say it took for you to lose all of that weight?

heh.. thanks =)
it took me the first 6 - 7 months to lose about 70lbs. and then i slowly lost 4 more lbs in the next 3 months. and maintained it till early 2005. i went back to the states and visited china and gained about 17lbs :D so i started living this way again in the beginning of june till now and ive lost 33lbs. so its been about a year and a half. some of these numbers are more or less estimates. ive lost a total of 107lbs now and still losing.
i like roller blading but im no good at it. lol. im living in an area where there's slopes and very little flat land. my roller blades are just sitting in a corner collecting dust. i guess thats why im thinkin of getting myself a bicycle for my birthday. heh.
ps: keep up the good work ben !!! ^_^

You look absolutely FABULOUS!! You should honestly consider modeling. Seriously - send those head shots to a couple of agencies.
I have a question for you: In the beginning, when you were first losing the weight, how did you get yourself NOT to eat? Not eating seems to be my biggest challenge - and a hurdle I can't seem to get passed. I gained 40 pounds in just 3 months, and now every day I vow to get myself back on track, but it never happens. I just eat more and more and more each and every day. I'd love to hear any advice you might have. Many thanks.

hey help_me_please,
lol me a model ? yea maybe a hand or a foot model or something but thanks :D maybe after i lose the extra 20lbs.
um... heres a couple of suggestions for you:
1) exercise early in the morning - this way, throughout the day, you will be concious of what you eat thinking you dont wanna waste the effort you made that morning.
2) try distracting yourself - this one's a tough one coz sometimes even i have problems distracting myself but it works lol. whenever you crave or feel like eating, do something else like taking a walk, listening to music, something you enjoy doing basically. personally, i like the solitude i get from walkin/jogging outside with my ipod.
3) visualize yourself at your ideal weight - you can set goals by imagining yourself in a tight fitting dress or something. or imagine yourself 40lbs lighter in front of the mirror. whatever it is, dreaming of it will help a lot.
4) drink water first - drinking water can somewhat delay your hunger/craving. if you get sick of water or you dont like its plain taste, try adding a slice of lemon. i personally love drinking tea. green, oolong, jasmine, chrysanthynum... you name it. i drink it. :> without sugar of course :P
5) identify if you're really hungry - im sure everyone knows this method already but ill mention it anyway. before you grab something from the kitchen, rate your hunger from 1 to 10. (1 being very full and 10 being starving) only eat when you are at a 7 or an 8. don't eat at 10. you might end up eating much more than you really wanted to.
6) make a healthy choice - if you do decide you must eat something in between meals, eat a fruit. fruits are mineral-densed compared to junk food. plus, its adds to your daily fiber requirement and has less calories. for example, a medium apple is about 45 calories. the average person loses 45 calories during an hour of sleep.
i hope my suggestions are helpful and feel free to ask me anything else. good luck ;)

| Congratulations:), you look GREAT. Being hapa (Half-Asian) myself, I am 5'2" and weigh 145 lbs., yet my mother and father always mentions everytime I visit them that I'm way too FAT and should be ashamed of not having self-control. So, I rebel by eating more and getting fatter. I finally realized that this is not helping me and that I'm the only one who is hurting myself.

You look great! I also think it's great that you realize that you may end up having a problem. Honesty is the best Hopefully, you will prove yourself wrong, and it will all go well!
