I am a successful dieter, but I have one lingering problem...

I started my diet last September. I started out at 176 lbs.  I am currently at 132.

While I am happy with my progress, I'm having trouble adjusting to my new weight mentally. I still think of myself as being that 176 lb. girl. Even though my clothes are smaller and I get plenty of compliments, I'm having trouble losing the mental weight.

Anyone have any suggestions??

Affirmations...

They'll help you change your unconscious processes to those of a trim girl.

(They're best started before a weight loss program - but better late than never!)

I'm not sure this will help you, but I'm not trying to be funny.

Next time you go to the market, put four 10 lb bags of sugar or flour in your shopping cart and think that you used to carry that much more around.

Perhaps even carry a couple bags around for awhile. No one will notice if you look like you're walking somewhere.

I've done this before to appreciate what a difference carrying an extra 10 pounds makes.

You've lost 44! :ribbon:

It's obvious to me that you look better and are healthier. Keep up the good work.

Another thing that you can do is to think of the new you. Same thing Nevd has said. It's kind of hard to explain but, this is where unconcioussly you've programmed your brain to think. "I'm this 176lb girl"  thinking negative could cause you to brake down mentally and gain the weight back. Sorry If i sound cheesy or get all Tony Robbins but, the fact of the matter is that you have to build the new image of you. Be happy where you are at, you worked hard for it and you sghould be proud of lossin all that weight.

Try to think more Happy thoughts of your current weight and Eliminate negative thoughts of your old weight... Do it for yourself! Good luck.

I agree with what everyone else has said.  I also was wondering if looking at some pictures would help.  Maybe you could fish out some old photos of yourself at your heavier weight and take a current picture of yourself that you like and feel is most flattering and post these before and after pictures somewhere to help remind you of how far you have come.  Also, you have changed mentally spiritually, even though you may think you haven't.  Take note on all the things that you have learned since then and how much better off you are now.  Focus on the good things.  Don't feel guilty about giving yourself a well deserved pat on the back.

Looking at pictures is great advice. I too, am having trouble getting used to my "smaller" self.

It's weird that our brains take a while to catch up to our bodies, isn't it?

I don't have any great advice, just wanted to chime in and say that I know how you feel.

And, of course, congrats on your weight loss!

I know how you feel, but you will get use to it. I barely remember my heavy weight of 200lbs. I am 133lbs. now. It's like I was never fat!

It took me awhile for my mind to catch up with my body but it has been almost 3 years since I started losing weight so I guess it comes with time. Take pictures, that could help. I take more pictures now.
