i started in mid october 06, i don't have a scale so i don't know what i really was nor what i am right now, but i'm far more happy that way, i think progress by how your clothes fit is far less stressful then standing on a scale everyweek, but maybe thats just me.
i completely changed the way i eat and i started exercising, and while the first week was pretty painful it got better after that, and after a month it just became normal.i adjusted both as time went on, from what i ate to when i ate it and how much exercise i was doing per day.
when you say 8 months it seems like a long time, but really it hasn't felt that long at all, and had i not started when i did who knows what kind of shape i'd be in.
at first my goal was to get into a pair of 50s, then it was sub 50, then it was 44, which is the size i was a fair number of years ago, before i kind of fell off.now it's 40, that's the lowest size i've been not counting childhood, and after that its all unknown territory.
while i didn't follow all the advice given on this site, mostly due to my fear of using a scale, it has been a real help, the first three months i logged on to the forums every night and it made me feel more at ease.
neither of these pictures are very good, sorry, and the before pic isn't even me when i started, it was about a year before, i'm wearing very very relaxed fit pair of 58s but you can see they're pretty tight, i think the sweatshirt it 3x,rather tight as well. in the newer pic i'm in 44s and the shirt is xl, and fairly baggy in fact.

What this website strongly suggests is:
Learning to eat well and exercise is the only solution to long term weight loss.
How should you accomplish your goals? That's easy... whatever way works best for you!
Using a scale, not using a scale; counting calories, not counting calories...
Congrats on your success... sounds like you're doing great and thanks for sharing about it!

Congratulations! You should feel healthier too, getting up stairs is easier, walking, even little all day things should be much easier. I know shopping for clothes will be more fun! Regular stores don't carry sizes over 44, it's hard to find clothes over 40 if you don't want to go to the big and tall stores. :)
I'll show your post to my husband! Hopefully it motivates him!

it really feels like it has been a long time since i posted this but it has only been a month and a half, how strange. i'm still wearing 44s but they fit much much better, some pairs kind of loose infact, though truth be told when i posted this i was just kind of squeezing into those 44s but i was so happy that i could, i didn't really care. i've really lost alot in my hips, and a bit more in my face and stomach.
i've still got quite a bit to go but what i kind of learned is that time passes regardless of what it is you do, so you might as well do something. had i started a year earlier then i did i'd be doing twice as well now, two years and i might be downright thin right now. it doesn't really matter when you start, a year from now is still going to pass the same if you change your habbits or not. anyhow, that's what i got out of all this.

hmm, and sorry about the dirty mirror again, i swear i did clean it, but i've taken so long to post again it's back to the mess

Holy Cow!!! (applauding)
I hope you gave yourself a pat on the back along with everyone who knows you.
It's really great to see pictures like this to see how people really do through diet and exercise. I wish I was comfortable to have a picture taken before losing the weight, but I take horrible pictures and I don't think I would post it for the world to see.
