Hello Everyone
My name is Andy and I have lost 51 pounds since Nov 15, 2004. It has been hard, but this website has been a true blessing. I am at 200 lbs now and I am trying to decide how much more I want/need to lose. I wish all well with their weight loss efforts. You can do it! Peace.

Hi Andy,
Congratulations on your tremendous success. I have used many height/weight ratio charts in the past, but have found many of them to be a little too hard to maintain. Maintenance as you know is a pretty scary word right now, because now that you are near that time in your life, you know that you will be doing it for the rest of your life. Overall frame size plays a big part on what weight to end up at. Your own comfort level is vital. Mine is 12 pounds over what they say is ideal. Good luck with your decision.

| Thank you for your kind welcome:). It does seem that the weight loss is getting harder the closer I get to my goal. Thanks for the words of encouragement.

Remember that we burn calories by expending energy... and it's a lot easier to walk a mile at 200 pounds than 251! Plus our bodies are designed to keep us alive through famine, and they'd love us to carry around a little extra food supply (read: fat).
So yes, it gets harder. And every day it does rejoice in the progress you've made.
I know how corny that sounds (rejoice), but sometimes people have a problem when the scale stops dropping so quickly. Day after day, week after week it keeps dropping fast and every day the scale reads lower it's like winning a blue ribbon! Then this pattern stops or slows down and there's no prize every day. People get discouraged, quit, and get fat again.
This is why I say to emphasize your progress.
I just went on a food plan to lower my cholesterol before my doctor put me on meds. I started mid-February and quickly lost all the fat I had, 20 pounds. Now I'm going back up a little but I know it's muscle as my percent body fat keeps going down.
I have a scale that gives this number. It may not be real accurate, but at least it gives me an idea of my progress. I started at 22% and just this morning my weight was up a pound by my percent down from 15 to 14%... so I put on muscle.
Oh, and in 9 weeks my total cholesterol dropped from 267 to 157. Not bad!
BTW, Andy, in response to your original post about deciding how much you want to lose... I don't use BMI or any kind of chart... I just pinch my waist or see how my pants fit. Works for me!
