Congratulations on your "NEW" way of life. Continue to post and read as we all need support at one time or another. It will also help with the learning process. I read something new daily. Our eating plan may need "tweaking" at one time or another, and it also keeps the brain engaged and working. Eating is not just a need and hunger thing, our mind needs adjustments too! Keep up the good work.

First of all, thank you very much for the complement. I usually walk 2 mile every day if I can. If I cant on some days becaue of other commitments I dont sweat it. But on evenings ehere both my wife and children are gone for an extended period of time I walk more ususally around 5 to 6 miles. te food I eat is a big thing though, I used to eat fast food for lunch 5 days a week and sometimes at dinner and still be hungry afterwards. I have been primarily following the low GI lifestyle but at the sametime watching the amount of calories and fat I take in. Low GI food really does fill you up and keep you from being hungry all the time. I have alot more energy and just feel better all around. I used to drink about 6 cans of regular soda a day and to be honest the first few days of quitting drinking caffeine was hard a mild headache and very irritable, but now i dont even think i could get myself to drink any knowing now what that garbage does to your body!! I started out at 397lbs and I am now at 350lbs I am 6' 4" tall and hope to be 250lbs someday. It will take time but I believe the approach to losing weight being a lifestyle change is the correct way to go about it. I weigh myself on thursday mornings once a week. I will post updates every friday. Getting back to the walking and exercise, I started out walking about a mile at first and found myself tired quickly. But gradually your body gets used to what your doing and your stanima gets greater. Back last year I would have never imagined myself walking a half a mile let alone 6 miles at once and your body rewards you with a new look. I havent wore a 3 xl shirt in over 10 years, last night i found one in my closet from high school and it fit. What a feeling!!! Anyway,I am rambling on now good luck everyone and keep up the hardwork it is worth it!!

oh please do share!! I am excited for you! that is some acheivement.. well done. A lot of people get the weight off, but to keep eating healthy and not go back to bad habits is not an easy thing to do.. it seems u are well and truley on ur way to getting there .. i find walking is one of the best exercises a person can do.. i walk in the mornings if i dont have to go to work. I head out towards the bush where there are no houses.. its truley beautiful. Walking other than that consists of walking to work, walking the kids to school and home, and i walk a lot at work as my job requires a lot of walking and lifting. I would love to hear how u did it tho and please feel free to share!! ..
Blessings and good health to you and urs

| It sounds good (the gi diet that is). I feel like I'm doing a lot of what it suggests though anyway (lot's of fruits, veggies, lean meats, whole grains). I would be willing to follow something similar, but I would allow myself a litte more freedom, in phase 1 it seems pretty strict (no watermelon or apricots: I can't have cheesecake or yummy fruit?!?!?!) I like my fruits. If I have to give up the cheesecake at least let me have some fruit!!!

| WOW! It has been a long time since I posted on here. Today is june 28th and I now weigh in at 295lbs. I can not believe that I have lost just over 100lbs. It has not been easy lots of curves in the road but I have stuck my ground and continue to diet and eat my low gi foods. The weight doesnt come off as fast now but 2 to 3 lbs a week is fine by me. I have gone from wearing a 5xl shirt to a 2xl shirt and have gone from 46 waistband to a size 40. People come in to my store and havent seen me for a long time and dont even recognize me. Well, enougha bout me though good luck to everyone else out there and keep up the good hard work it is definatly worth all of it. DAVE

Congratulations, Dave!
Just think about what you've accomplished:P Better yet, think of how much healthier your body is, because of all the nutritious food you've been fueling it with!
Did you have any trouble with high blood pressure, high cholesterol or high blood sugar? When I lost my weight, I also enjoyed seeing the health results that I could measure. Besides seeing the scale drop 90 pounds, my high cholesterol went way down (239 to 164), my good cholesterol went up to a healthier level. My triglycerides went way, way down! I think my high was at 298, and now are around 65.
Have you ever lifted a 40 lb. bag of potting soil? Or a 25 lb. bag of flour? When you do your walking, think about what it would be like to go for a walk carrying 4-25 lb. bags of flour every step of the way
Keep up the great work! We're rooting for you:D Hisgal

I am thinking of doing Low GI diet as well. Can you tell me some of the typical things that you eat in a day? would love to hear all about it! It's one thing to read a book, but quite another to actually hear it from someone who has actually applied it.
Thanks, and congrats!

| HAVENT POSTED IN A WHILE AGAIN, SORRY ABOUT THAT. A UPDATE ON WHERE I AM AT WITH THE WHOLE WEIGHT LOSS WITH LOW GI FOODS. I STARTED THIS JOURNEY THE END ON JANUARY OF THIS YEAR AND REALLY HIT IT HARD AND FURIOUSLY. I HAVE LOST 130 LBS AS OF TODAY. THE WEIGHT DOENST COME OFF AS FAST AS IT USED TOO AND THAT IS OK. IT WAS HARD TO LIVE WITH AT FIRST BUT NOW I REALIZE THAT IT CANT GO LIKE IT DID AT FIRST WHEN I FIRST STARTED. I HAVE MAINTAINED MY LOW GI DIET AND EXERCISE WHEN I CAN, WHICH ISNT AS OFTEN AS IT USED TO BE BUT I AM NOT GAINING ANY WEIGHT BACK WHICH WAS MY BIGGEST FEAR. I WOULD LIKE TO LOSE ANOTHER 20 LBS OVER THE WINTER AND THEN MAINTAIN THAT WEIGHT. ANYWAY KUDOS TO THIS AWESOME WEBSITE FOR HELPING ME WITH QUESTIONS ALONG THE WAY AND GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE OUT THERE IT IS WORK THE EFFORT.
